Glimpses are a collection of very short stories intended to capture the essence of very ordinary people, places, or things that I find extraordinary.
There was no question, Stuckey was loved. He beamed as everyone gazed at him, the shadows from the candles flickering on his cheeks and forehead.
It smelled like birthday cake and icing. He loved that. He'd lived a good long life and in the end he came to appreciate the littlest of things. Birthday cake was one of them. He wrinkled his nose, took a breath, and blew. A wish.
There was something peculiar about the man, now, with a face shriveled like an cut apple left out to dry. He was quiet. He watched a room instead of being in it. He studied them all. He knew everyone's secrets with very few words exchanged. He didn't have to talk with them to know they were feeling. He just knew. He'd soak it in, even when it felt like he was inhaling vinegar. He felt great happiness and joy, too, thank goodness. What kind of existence would it be to feel a world bent in only one direction?
No, he felt deeply and he felt it all.
